A.
A. Milne set his famous Winnie the Pooh stories in the Ashdown
Forest, East Sussex, England. In this beautiful forest you
can still find the Enchanted Places mentioned in the books.
During your visit you may also spot some Fallow deer which
roam freely in the forest.
This
site is called Gills Lap after a real place on the top of
Ashdown Forest. A. A. Milne renamed this enchanted place
Galleons Lap, in his books.

| "
Being Enchanted its floor was not like the floor
of the Forest, gorse and bracken and heather
but close-set grass, quiet and smooth and green.
It was the only place in the Forest where you
could sit down carelessly without getting up
again almost at once and looking for somewhere
else. Sitting there they could see the whole
world spread out until it reached the sky, and
whatever there was all the world over was with
them in Galleons Lap" |

In
1979 The Conservators of Ashdown Forest agreed to
the placing of a memorial dedicated to Milne and Shepard
in the forest.
To
visit the memorial, park in Piglet's Car Park, and
walk up the steep pathway. When you reach the top,
turn left and you should see the memorial in the distance.
